The 100 Riels Project
Sir Winston Churchill
The 100 Riels project, founded by a group of young Cambodians who are inspired to reach out to the children of underprivileged communities in Cambodia, started as a high school project revolving around a special idea: “Little things create big impacts.” We are committed to enhance their livelihood through community outreach and the provision of educational support. With empowerment and encouragement, we hope to equip them with necessities needed to eliminate barriers and unlock opportunities for a brighter future. Over the past years since the establishment of the project, we have made small financial donations to Cambodia’s Children Fund (CCF) to support the betterment of education for underprivileged children. In the year of 2019, 100 Riels Project has expanded our objectives to better engage and provide direct support to selected communities.
We started off with a high school project assigned by our P.E. teacher. The objective was to create something that will impact your life. My co-founder, Moninath Bunyay, and I discussed and I came up with an idea to start a fundraiser to help unpriviledge students. We stored boxes around campus and raised $30 within one month. We contacted Cambodian Children Fund to donate and we were recognized founder Scott Neeson.
We expanded our project to help schools outside of the city. We managed to raise $750 for school supplies. We distributed supplies for students at Mong Reasey Primary School, Battambang.
We collaborated with The Shy Plant Co., an eco-friendly soy candle business and successfully raised over our goal of $6,000.
We are still keeping track on our donation as our donor, Kok Chann Primary Schoo, builds library/
